Mal Pardy sent me some photos of our old room on 2-Wing. I think I can spot my permanent “blanket/bed box” with the wooden panels in it. I remember some of the guys helping me with “Brasso” cleaning my hundreds of brasses on my Jankers kit.
I have “Bull-Night” every Wednesday, actually in the daytime, I am the “putzmann” at home. I still use the old cleaning methods that I learnt at Halton and my short “holiday” at Cosford, and my wife commented on the strip between the kitchen and the dining room where a small amount of muck and debris had accumulated, she said it was surprisingly clean today. I got an old toothbrush, some paraffin and cleaned the muck away. I remember how we used to clean the lino floors in the barracks on our hands and knees using scrubbing brushes and paraffin to get the old polish off. We would spend hours doing it and then applying fresh polish and using the big heavy polisher/buffer with felt under it to buff a shine on the polish. HSE would have a fit these days if somebody cleaned the floors with paraffin in a confined space. Ozzy
